about

To mark the fifth release of Leftback Intercities, we’ve created a specially curated collection of tracks from some of the label’s nearest and dearest. This first instalment of our Various Artist compilation series includes a selection of superb tracks from the likes of Leftback old-timers TIJN, Luke Black and label-head Dudley Strangeways, as well as contributions from relative newcomers such as Micallef and Chklte. As you might expect, each artist has brought their own style to the plate, but the essence of the Leftback sound remains firmly alive throughout.

Long time friend of the label and Offenbach native, Matt Star opens with his wonderfully deep, bassy, stripped-down contribution, “Pluck”.

Cosmic Clap, follows his recent Leftback Intercities EP with “Paranoid”, and as usual provides us with a brilliantly detailed, percussive groover.

TIJN & Dudley Strangeways’ “Reset” is next, and any Leftback superfans out there will recognise this as a track that has been doing the rounds for a couple of years now. It’s “a sound engineer’s worst nightmare”, have a listen and you’ll see why!

Micallef, aka Leftback’s artist in residence responsible for all of our amazing sleeve designs, makes his debut musical appearance on the label seamlessly blending dub and breaks in his track “Anomaly”.

Bunny CWC is also no stranger to the Leftback crew and turns in a stellar minimal number that perfectly encapsulates the sound that he is so widely-known for in his native Birmingham and beyond, as the name “Sandwell Valley” (just on the border of Birmingham) suggests.

Next up is another seasoned Leftback member, Mortalyf, with “The 411”. Skippy rhythms and moody pads complement each other to create one of those rare, excellent, tool-like tunes. A must for any collection.

Annie Errez, makes her third appearance on Leftback with “Connexio”, a stripped-down housey affair, in keeping with her previous releases for us.

Although Chklte may be a newcomer to the Leftback camp, he’s been making waves in underground circles for some time now with his refined take on minimal, and his track “Blue Canvas” is no exception. This one is deep and driving, definitely one for the peak-time hours.

Luke Black is next on the lineup with “Encourage the Whistler”. As usual Luke provides us with an on-point, monster of a record. Dub and bass all the way on this one.

Leftback boss Dudley Strangeways turns in another of his expertly-produced, deep, yet minimal rollers for his solo contribution to the compilation with “Eastpoint”.

Finally, Trixie rounds off the compilation perfectly with her beautifully moody, atmospheric track, “Amethyst”.
